Holiday greetings

Ward's aunt is a pretty cool lady. She's only a few years older than him, so they grew up more like cousins. She's done all sorts of interesting things in her life, ranging from high-powered corporate to social services. She has worked at a paint-your-own pottery studio, studied to be an Episcopal priest, and is now married to a rabbi.

Yesterday she sent this email, which is laugh-out-loud funny. Enjoy.

Hello all:

Just had to share a smile and one of those amusing little hiccups of the universe that came my way today.

As you might imagine, we get holiday cards that include both Christmas and Chanukah greetings. We got a very nice card from (Ward's parents) today...and we also got an adorable card from (Ward's sister). Probably others in the family have already or will receive the same one, but in case you haven't, as you pull the card from the envelope, the first thing you see is a note printed on white paper that says "please put this paper over the card to protect it during mailing". I'm paraphrasing here, but you get the idea.

The reason the card needs protecting is because the front is decorated simply with three buttons. One has a J on it, the second an O, the third a Y. Joy. The perfect greeting.

Except, despite (sister) and the card designer's best efforts, the U.S. Postal Service jostled ours around sufficiently so that one of the letters fell off during transit anyway.

Ours now simply reads, "OY".

How very, very appropriate--and for so many different reasons this particular holiday season! Just so you should know (sister), both "Joy" or "Oy", work perfectly well in our household this year!
