The second grade learns geography with the help of Flat Stanley. In the 1964 book by Jeff Brown, Stanley is is so flat that he can be mailed around the world in an envelope.
Gillian and her classmates each made two Stanleys and are sending them out to friends and family. The recipients are asked to send a postcard from where they live or are vacationing (though photos and emails would also suffice) to Gillian at school, and then send Stanley to someone else. The kids track the responses on a map of the world, graph the locations, and make a portfolio of the postcards. The project continues through the end of the school year in June.
I'm hoping that many of you will help. If you don't receive the letter and Stanley, I know Gillian would still love to get a postcard from you, especially if you live or vacation in an interesting place! You can email me for the mailing address of her school.
One final request - PLEASE PRINT your message as cursive handwriting is difficult for the kids to read.
